Transportation Supervisor - Portland Night Shift (must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule). You will be responsible for the control and direction of all transportation activities into and out of the facility to meet company standards of customer service, cost, safety, and security. Directs and coordinates activities of the department by performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned. Prepares and issues new schedules to drivers. Checks trip and dispatch logs for conformance with schedules. Directs preparation and retention of dispatch and vehicle operations records and reports. Dispatches replacements for vehicles involved in accidents. Enforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations. Directs investigations into causes of customer complaints and responds accordingly. Inspects automotive equipment, scheduling needed repair or service work. Coordinates terminal and dispatching activities, and assignment of drivers to obtain optimum use of facilities, equipment, and human resources. Inspects vehicles for such factors as cleanliness, safety, and appearance, and takes required actions in order to meet prescribed standards. Initiates investigations into causes of accidents, interviews drivers concerned to determine responsibility, and takes actions on findings and submits reports to management. Directs and participates in training of personnel and issues manuals, bulletins, and technical guides to improve services and operational activities. Supervisory Responsibilities Leads 10 to 70 employees in the transportation department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, safety training; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Essential Functions Supervision and assignment of specific responsibilities to all transportation personnel, which includes route delivery, ensuring prompt and accurate delivery/pick- up of all service requests for customers and other transportation activities as required by the needs of the company and the customer base.  Ensure that the transportation group provides excellent internal and external customer service while achieving total labor ratio goals. Manage the Human Resources aspect of supervision including performance appraisals, counseling and various performance marker measurements. Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Valid CDL B Driver's License with clean driving record required Associates Degree in Business related field preferred. 2+ years management/supervisory experience to include employee relations, performance management, hiring, training and coaching. Transportation/Fleet Service experience, which includes customer processing, route delivery procedures and basic security and operational procedures. Understanding of how to motivate and provide supportive leadership for those supervised.  This would include practicing a “coaching” style of management that utilizes collaborative and team directed approaches to managing employees. Possess a general knowledge of business processes such as profit and loss, profit margins, accounting, and other related principles. Understanding and ability to manage to DOT requirements. Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment, cases, metal containers, or boxes in excess of 40-70 lbs. Proficient with MS Office and comfortable learning new technology.
